Interesting thoughts from H. Sala:
SIGNS OF THE TIMES
On May 21 at 6 P.M. PST, according to Harold Camping, the 89-year-old head of Family Radio, Christ was to have returned! Camping, a one-time plumbing contractor-turned-amateur prophet, managed to put together a chain of Christian radio stations in the 70s that began well but were led astray by his dogmatism. In 1994 he made his first prediction of the Lord’s return, and when it did not materialized, agreed to recant and apologize at a banquet in New York City. I was asked to speak for that banquet.
Since Family Radio carried Guidelines, I agreed to do so. The closest thing that Camping got to an apology was to say that because he had warned America (as Jonah had warned Nineveh), God gave the country a second chance.
What is very sad to me is that the Lord’s return became a joke and was mocked. Bars held "Second Coming" or "Rapture Parties," to say nothing of the millions of dollars that the organization spent on full page newspaper ads in USA TODAY, WALL STREET JOURNAL and other publications. Donors gave the money to proclaim the Good News, not advertise the hallucinations of a false prophet.
What is of far greater significance in relationship to the Lord’s return is what is happening in the Middle East today in relationship to Israel. Even a casual reading of Ezekiel 36-39 casts the shadowed outline of Middle Eastern nations laying siege to Israel where the Battle of Armageddon will be fought. I stood on the brow of the Valley of Megiddo a few weeks ago and pointed out that here three continents merge-Europe, Africa, and Asia. This is happening now!
On May 21 at 6:00 PM I heard the old family grandfather clock chime six times and said, "There are people who need the Lord, people who are lost and broken-hearted. We’ll renew all efforts to reach as many as possible before He does return.
A CLOSING THOUGHT
While Harold Camping got the date wrong, it is certain that we are closer to His return than we have ever been before. Let’s work for the cause of Christ while it is day for the night will come when no man can work!"
Yours for the harvest,
